Joining GERMS gives you the opportunity to ride regularly on a fully licensed ambulance and even
participate in the management of one of the largest collegiate EMS organizations in the country.
With EMTs hailing from all four colleges, including graduate schools, GERMS provides a structured, supportive,
yet challenging introduction to EMS. Not only do GERMS members count themselves among one of the nation’s oldest
collegiate EMS organizations, but also they build friendships that last a lifetime.
Membership in GERMS is open to all individuals who have an affiliation with Georgetown University.
There are two ways in which new members join GERMS. Many new members take and pass the Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
course offered semesterly by our Department of Training. Those who already hold an emergency
medical certification in another jurisdiction can become members of GERMS by obtaining a national certification from the National
Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and obtaining reciprocity.
