Administrative Structure
An organized structure of both elected and appointed student officers manages the organization.
The President, elected each spring by the general membership, is in charge of all the administrative aspects of
GERMS. Directly assisting the President are the Chief of Staff and Chief of Education, both of whom are appointed.
Examples of other appointed administrative positions in GERMS include the directors of Public Relations, Training,
Ongoing Education, Personnel, Probation (new members), CPR Certification, and Alumni Relations. The Vice-President,
also elected by the membership, is in charge of the operational side of GERMS. Examples of operational positions in
GERMS include the directors of Ambulance Operations, Equipment, Electronic Systems, Scheduling, and Standbys. This
division between Operations and Administration is very common among EMS organizations and allows a clearer delegation
of responsibilities. The membership elects the secretary, treasurer, social coordinator, and senior and junior
Members-at-Large each year as well.
